A MOD-SPECIFIC INSTALL PATH

Install Boss Menu with MelonLoader

Boss Menu's Nexus instructions require MelonLoader: install the loader into the game installation, run the game once to create its directories, close it, then put the mod DLL in the Mods folder. This requirement applies to Boss Menu; other mods can use different installation methods.

The game-specific instructions are a single-source Nexus record: https://www.nexusmods.com/thebossgangstercriminalempire/mods/2 . The general folder, log and uninstall rules are documented by MelonLoader itself: https://github.com/LavaGang/MelonLoader . No loader version has been independently confirmed for this game's launch hotfixes.

1. Prepare the installation

Close the game and keep a separate copy of saves before changing files. Locate the game installation directory, not AppData/LocalLow/BefGames. The AppData deletion advice in a crash thread is not a mod-install instruction.

Use the Boss Menu page for its required loader release and dependencies. Download the loader through the official project, not a repackaged game archive. Installer instructions: https://github.com/LavaGang/MelonLoader.Installer#melonloader-installation .

2. Install the loader and add the DLL

  • In the MelonLoader installer, select the executable in the game installation and install the release required by the mod. A specific compatible release is not established in the available game sources.
  • Launch once after loader installation so its directories and configuration can be created, then close the game before copying the mod.
  • Extract the Boss Menu archive. Place its mod DLL in the game installation's Mods folder; follow the mod author's instructions for any additional files. Do not put the mod DLL in Plugins.
  • Loader logs are in MelonLoader/Logs under the game installation. If loading fails, the log is the relevant diagnostic record; this guide does not promise compatibility with every hotfix.

3. Disable a mod or return to an unmodified setup

With the game closed, move the Boss Menu DLL out of Mods to disable that mod. Keep a backup of any mod configuration you want to retain. Removing a DLL does not undo changes already written into a save.

For loader removal, use its installer's uninstall option. The project's manual alternative removes version.dll and the MelonLoader directory; removing Mods, Plugins and UserData is optional for a full cleanup. Keep wanted configuration before removing UserData. Source: https://github.com/LavaGang/MelonLoader#un-install .

Compatibility and other mods

The reviewed Boss Menu update predates the 1.0 launch hotfixes. A recent upload date alone does not confirm current compatibility. This page establishes an installation method, not an official mod-support guarantee. Multimod has its own instructions; do not apply Boss Menu's loader requirement to it automatically.

Questions

Where does the mod DLL go?

Boss Menu goes in Mods under the game installation directory, according to its recorded instructions. MelonLoader also documents Mods for mods and Plugins for plugins.

Does uninstalling restore a modified save?

No such rollback is established. Removing the loader or DLL stops loading it; use the separate pre-mod save copy if you need an earlier save state.
