Lab recipes, slot order and failed attempts
At the manual Lab Table, choose the formula, fill only its active slots, finish Mix and Heat, set the target cooking time, then collect the output. The official wiki supplies the three arrangements below. A warehouse Lab Room is a separate automated system that uses recorded successful recipes.

The sources do not contain a verified screenshot of the exact incorrect-recipe message, so the troubleshooting follows documented mechanics rather than a proven error-code diagnosis.
Set up and cook a batch
Unlock Lab Table in the Feature Vault, buy and place it in a property, and stock the needed ingredients in its crafting inventory. Each listed slot takes one of the named ingredient. Finish Mix, then Heat, choose the cooking time and start cooking. Collect the finished batch before starting another.

Choose the branch that matches the failure
- Wrong ingredient: remove anything outside the selected formula. The wiki says unrelated ingredients cause failure.
- Right ingredients, lower quality: correct the slot order. The same ingredients in a different order can produce a lower tier; wrong order does not always mean a failed batch.
- Mix failed: replace the randomly lost slotted ingredient before retrying. A visually incomplete arrangement can no longer match the intended recipe.
- Batch will not start: collect outstanding output and replenish ingredients. Make inventory space for the entire completed batch before collection.
- Unexpected quantity: Heat and cooking accuracy affect quantity separately from ingredient order. Time spent placing ingredients or playing Mix/Heat is not part of the target cook duration.
Quality and quantity are separate
The wiki says exact slot order produces the three-star variant. Partial correct order can produce one or two stars. Heat gives a bonus of 5 for Perfect, 3 for Good and 1 otherwise; cooking adds 5 at the exact target, 3 within 25%, or 1 for a larger error. A successful batch therefore yields 2 to 10 products. These figures are single-source.
Buy a recipe or move to warehouse production
Instead of discovering an arrangement, unlock its recipe-tier branch and buy the product recipe from Walter Dark. The wiki lists $10,000, $30,000 and $60,000 for a one-, two- or three-star recipe respectively, per product. A purchase records a recipe; it does not deliver physical stock.
Successful manual attempts also enter recipe history. Matching a recorded arrangement enables Quick Craft. Warehouse Lab Rooms use the recorded successful recipes with assigned chemists; their staffing and production durations should not be used as manual-table timings.
Questions
Why does a correct ingredient list still give a lower tier?
Ingredient order determines quality in the wiki. Match the sequence as well as the ingredients; Heat and time affect batch size separately.
Does Craft skill reduce the 10-, 15- or 20-second cook setting?
The wiki distinguishes Crafting Table duration reductions from the manual Lab Table's selected cooking time. Do not shorten the target cook time using the bench-skill reduction.
